A new chapter unfolds for one of the world’s most prestigious running events: Generali Deutschland AG is set to become the title partner of the BERLIN-MARATHON from 1 October 2026. The partnership was unveiled today in Berlin at the REGISTRATION RUN at the iconic Brandenburg Gate. The first GENERALI BERLIN-MARATHON will take to the streets on 26 September 2027.
Tigst Assefa left her mark on the 2026 BMW BERLIN-MARATHON with an impressive course record while also delivering a dramatic race. The 29-year-old Ethiopian won last Sunday in 2:11:04, significantly improving her own course record. Until shortly before the finish, she was even on world-record pace.
Tigst Assefa smashed the course record at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON with 2:11:04. However the Ethiopian was extremely unlucky since she was well on course for the world record of 2:09:56 until around the 40 k mark.
The GENERALI 5K as part of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON provided an atmospheric start to the race weekend this morning in perfect running conditions, building excitement for the big marathon on Sunday.
Women account for 36.2 percent of all participants in the 2026 BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. Among runners aged 26 to 30, the share has already reached 40.2 percent. So how can we create a positive future for women in running?
Open and tight races are expected at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON on Sunday. After the withdrawal of injured world record holder Sabastian Sawe, who will be in Berlin as a guest of honour, at least half a dozen of athletes look capable of winning Germany’s most spectacular road race.
